Typically, I start large and run a texture size reduction if it's going into a game engine. Since this is strictly portfolio work, in my opinion it wasn't a necessity. By they are 2048 at the time of render, just a misreport.
Excellent job my friend! seeing your work always makes me want to venture into the 3D rendering world. This is an excellent showcasing of the WoW character.
Hi! I'm sorry to bother you but I've been following your work for a while and I specially like this one because of it's old-school look. What I've been wondering all this time is how you achieve it. I mean, I guess hand painted textures for sure, not a single photo, not normal maps? In fact, does it have anything besides the diffuse? I could swear that skin has an SSS shader...
Hey! No bother at all. You have a good eye for detail. Yes, the textures are hand-painted (all in Photoshop, now I use 3D Coat which is much less restraining and simpler for painting textures on your 3d model), and there is actually a normal and spec map at work as well. And yes! I am using a skin shader with similar behaviors to that of an SSS shader including subdermis depth color and scattering in Marmoset Toolbag.
Thanks a lot for the tips! I've never used 3D Coat, though I imagine it must be similar to Zbrush? at least in texture painting... And I just got Marmoset Toolbag so I'll definitely have to check those shaders and stuff. Again, thanks for this. I always keep your work as reference and inspiration
